Metaphors for the Almighty

Leader: Marla Hutchinson and Laura Jackson
Day/Time: Friday 9:15-11:30am
Study Materials: None- a study guide will be provided
Study Description: How do we begin to understand that which is unknown? Often metaphors, or word pictures, of something that is familiar to us, are useful to give us something to compare
with the unfamiliar. This study will examine some of the many metaphors used to describe who God is in scripture, His character, His ways, His rule, and His desire for a relationship with us. The metaphors we will explore are: Rock, Lamb, Hen, Shield, Kinsman/redeemer, The Word, Consuming Fire, Shepherd, Bridegroom, and King of Kings. This contemplative Bible study method is designed to bring the truths of God into our being at a deeper level, to lead us to a deeper relationship of trust and to lead us to worship. Each week we will point out a song using that week's metaphor and will explore journaling how we have experienced Jesus as that week's metaphor.

Suggested Preparation time: 20-30 minutes, 4 times per week
